Buhari does not have the right to bar AIT - Dokpesi

High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, the proprietor of Daar Communications PLC, has said the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, does not have the power to bar one of the group's subsidiaries, Africa Independent Television, AIT, from covering his activities.

 Chief Dokpesi made this known in an interview with Premium Times. He said the decision will amount to breaking the law. 


Dokpesi said although the President-elect does not want to be covered by AIT, the station on the other hand, has a responsibility to the Nigerian public to report events.

Dokpesi who acknowledged that Buhari may have taken the decision based on the documentary ran by the station prior to the presidential elections, he said the station as a commercial entity reserves the right to run anything it considers worthy of being televised. He further said nothing was done to defame the character of the President-elect as the historical information televised about him were factually correct.
